Operation Gratitude, November 26, 2011

As we close in on the 750,000th package to be shipping, with over 10,500 boxes completed for the troops yesterday alone, bringing the weekend's total to approximately 18,000 pkgs or a full DIVISION's worth of boxes!

If you're not supporting OG, today would be a great way to start.  Click on the ad above for ways you can help, and remember, cash is always great!  $15 sends one finished box on its way, and it's all deductible!

Remembering the Vets, Supporting Those Still Fighting -- Operation Gratitude!

Last weekend Operation Gratitude packed and shipped over 7,300 packages to US troops serving in Afghanistan and elsewhere.  They are on track to ship their 750,000th package by the end of the Thanksgiving Holiday drive.  Is there something higher than The 1%?  'Cuz these folks are them.
If you have a loved one deployed, or know a deployed servicemember, have their CO contact Operation Gratitude to get their unit on the package list.
If you work for a company that sells, manufactures or distributes small toiletries, socks, t-shirts, entertainment items, snacks, etc., contact OG about tax deductible donations.  Goods always in demand!
If you want to participate, the armory is at the corner of Victory and Louise, just west of Balboa, in Encino. check the website for schedules under "volunteers".
If you want to make a cash donation, $15.00 fully deductible puts a ten pound gift box in a servicemember's hand.  OG has one of the highest, if not the highest, pass-through of any registered charity I know.  To the best of my knowledge, every penny donated goes to purchasing packing materials from the USPS and shipping the boxes.

This post dedicated to Sgt. Carlo Eugenio, from Rancho Cucamonga, California, served with the 756th Transportation Company, 224th Sustainment Brigade, California Army National Guard, based at Van Nuys (the unit that hosts Operation Gratitude). He deployed to Afghanistan in August on a one-year mission. Previously he had served in Kuwait.  KIA

Special Operation Gratitude Event Sunday, June 5 for the USS RONALD REAGAN!

Operation Gratitude will be holding a special packing session on Sunday, June 5, at the National Guard Armory on Victory and Louise, just west of Balboa Blvd.  The goal is to pack and ship one care package to every single man and woman aboard the USS Ronald Reagan on the anniversary of Reagan's passing. This means nearly 6,000 packages will have to be prepared in this one day to reach every sailor, Marine and aviator aboard ship.  Volunteers are welcome, as are tax-deductible donations of goods and money, especially money to meet rising postal costs.  Doors open 9 a.m.  Free lunch.

Rule 5 — Operation Gratitude Mystery!

Naaaah... it COULDN'T be...

Operation Gratitude May, 2011

Earlier this month.  There's another packing session today, 5/28 9-4 at the armory at Louise and Victory just west of Balboa!  Come on down!

As an added perk the Most Interesting Man in the World from the Dos Equis commercials showed up to pack boxes and cheer the volunteers on.  He had some useful tips for arm wrestling Fidel Castro in a  beer commercial: 1) never let Che Guevara get behind you and 2) wait 'til he's 85 years old.

Operation Gratitude, Saturday, October 30

While jester turned fool Jon Stewart was holding his plastic "Rally to Restore Inanity" in DC even as bombs were being pulled off airplanes around the world, real sanity broke out in Van Nuys CA as people lined up around the armory building to pack and send gift boxes to the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan through Operation Gratitude.

Over 6,000 packages were finished before lunch.  The target is 10,000 packages/day during this holiday packing period.

Like everyone else in the current economic 'recovery' OG is finding cash harder to come by.  This is a fully deductible registered charity and there are many ways to support them, from straight financial donations to programs to recycle old cell phones.  Check out their website for ways to keep the boxes flying!
