This video shows us the terrorists have won in the minds of the fearful. If we do become scared and worried, then the terrorists have won because that is what they want. They WANT you to think ALL Muslims are terrorists, they WANT you to be afraid. They WANT you to to give up American's Constitutional religious freedoms they don't have or support ...aren't we better than they are?

Are we real Americans who believe in our freedoms or just a pathetic fearful people who feel threatened from a 1% minority religion?

Ben Franklin said: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” What would Ben Franklin say on the subject of religious freedom in America if he were alive today?

We lost more American blood and cash in Iraq than lost on 9/11 - why? Supposedly to free the Iraqi Muslims ... and now to deny them freedom in America?

The guy who is in charge of this Mosque is Feisal Abdul Rauf, who was employed by the guy you voted for twice - GW Bush - to help the FBI in counter terrorism! Now conservative media are demonizing Obama for his association with Feisal.

It is amazing to me how far America, especially conservatives have slipped into fear and ignorance since GW Bush began a serious effort to seek out and support moderate Islam. What happened to that effort to embrace and educate our Muslim citizens? EDUCATION is the best weapon we have against radicalism.

"The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends. It is not our many Arab friends ... The terrorists practice a fringe form of Islamic extremism that has been rejected by Muslim scholars and the vast majority of Muslim clerics; a fringe movement that perverts the peaceful teachings of Islam." - G.W. Bush 9/20/01

The Mosque is not really a Mosque and it's not really at Ground Zero. What is at GZ is a Burger King, a strip joint, the Memorial and tower that’s never been built, a bunch of tacky souvenir tables that profit off of cheap China-made 911 memorabilia and fake Rolexes. Is it honorable to sell that tacky knicknack snow globe where a few thousand people died? American citizens killed - including over 4 dozen innocent Muslim Americans – including NYPD police cadet and paramedic Mohammad Salman Hamdani who was killed - off duty - while going to the aid of victims at the World Trade Center, an AMERICAN hero.

Wow. You can watch that video and still spout this gibberish. Are your eyeballs comnnected to the rest of your nervous system?

A religion of peace would not build a mosque on the site of an atrocity committed in the name of their faith and name it after a military victory from their own expansionist history. "Moderate Muslims" would see this as being devoid both of compassion and common sense.

Of course that is assuming either that a) they genuinely are moderate Muslims who just happen to be endorsed by freaking HAMAS or b) that they're smarter than daring anonymous liberals spouting canned talking points ("Quoting Keith Olbermann is no way to go through life, son.")

Did you bother to check my links? I have a link directly to the copy of the Koran and Surahs as posted by the Muslim Students Association of USC. This is NOT a religion of peace and tolerance.

The fact of the matter is that everywhere fundamentalist Islam touches the rest of the world, the rest of the world BLEEDS. Whether it's schoolteachers in Thailand or the Phillippines killed for using textbooks other than the Koran, or (hundreds to date)Indonesian schoolgirls slaughtered for learning to read, or European filmmakers and cartoonists, or Jewish kids on the streets of Paris or ambulance drivers in Malmo, Sweden, this is a religion of intolerance and violence... and as Europe is learning, placating them does no good whatsoever.

I'm pretty sure Muslims aren't killing Thai schoolteachers because Dick Cheney took all the good parking spaces for Halliburton. As for your Muslim hero of 9/11, dude there are mosques in Brooklyn he couldn't walk past without being set upon and beaten for being insufficiently devout.

Still, in the end, you are entitled to your ignorant opinions, and to grasping at any rationale that justifies your moral cowardice and desperate need to avoid standing for anything meaningful.

PRESIDENT Barack Obama is not. This is not the faculty lounge at some community college anymore, and gassy bloviating that wows the freshmen just won't cut it anymore.

Religion of peace:

Christians ordered to kill infidels (2 Chronicles 15:13):
"anyone who refused to seek the Lord, the God of Israel, would be put to death—whether young or old, man or woman."

Christians are ordered to kill those who worship differently (Exodus 22:20):
"He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed."

Christians are ordered to kill non-virgins (Deuteronomy 22:20-21):
"if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die"

Christians are ordered to kill gays (Leviticus 20:13):
'If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death"

It is really scary that our community is dominated by such a violent religion.

Yes, the terrorists have defeated you. They've made you afraid of them, they've made you think there IS no moderate Muslim and ALL Muslims are terrorists. They've kicked your ass.

You are a victim of your own bigotry and ignorance, which is increasingly common for older white Christians in America who have been fed a steady diet of xenophobic fear from Fox News and have never really had a significant relationship with a Muslim person in their lives.

I'm sorry you're a fearful pathetic American who'd rather compromise what makes America great - our Constitution - for your pathetic fears.

richard mcenroe said...

And when was the last time we did that? When was the last time anyone except Democrat Fred Phelps advocated that?

You're talking about something that has not been Christian policy for centuries and comparing it with something Muslims are doing today? Next you'll be telling me the Crusades were an offensive war.

Please note I have no intention of deleting this stuff. You are gold baby.

What I quoted was the word of God. Either you believe it or you don't.

Education can help you.

I feel sorry that you are such a fearful pathetic person that you're willing to give up freedoms that millions have fought and died for because you're afraid.

Fundamentalist religion is dangerous. Education is the solution.

Actually, what I was fed was Muslims trying to kill my family, twice, in the World Trade Center, and a long slime-trail behind them of oleaginous apologists like you.

And you're either the first liberal to give a rat's ass about the Constitution since the 2008 election or you've just finished reading Alinsky and you're excited to try him out. If you're so intent on upholding the Constitution, what are you doing about the Orthodox Church that was wrecked on 9/11 and the city's refusal to let THEM rebuild? Please point to all your self-righteous posts and letters to the editor about that.

The North Florida Mosque was pipe bombed in May. I think Muslims in America have far more to fear from right wing nutjob gun nuts than we have to fear from their tiny 1% of the American population.

The ignorants like Richard McEnroe say ... all you need to now about Muslims we learned on 9/11.

Obviously ignorant.

It's like saying ... All we need to know about right wing Christians we learned from Timothy McVeigh.

There was a time that the KKK marched against building a Catholic church in my town.

Hstory repeats itself.

You're unAmerican. History will show that as America continues to become more diverse, our strength.

Just proof you can't do basic arithmetic... or you never cared about Ft. Hood, or the Beltway snipers, or the muslims caught trying to sneak onto Fort Dix with explosives. Or the Somali Muslimns returning home to join their terrorist brothers. Or, to be multicultural, the London and Madrid bus bombings. But please, keep it up.

And for the record, I would be happy NOT to have a problem with that 1%. I've served or worked with Muslims from Egypt, Iran, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates and subSaharan Africa. But what you disingenuously call "moderate" Muslims I call "Muslims who stand around and watch." Until that 1% actively rejects the violent ones in their midst and actually does something to help root them out, they're not relevant to the debate.

First off, you're factually wrong. We know now that "diverse" cultures show less social strength than "less" diverse ones.

"Islam" is probably the least diverse "culture" on the face of the Earth as represented by the violence it inflicts on unbelievers around it in every other culture on earth. The Koran and the Surahs detail exactly what non-Muslims have to do to live with Muslims, and being embraced for their diversity isn't part of it.

People who hide their identities while casting aspersions, name calling, and can not engage in civil dialogue are beneath cowardice. You will notice my name at the bottom of every post. If someone is unwilling to put their name to their statements, then they are not fully invested in those statements. But Alinsky would be proud.

The lack of curiosity as to how those that oppose the mosque really believe is sad, but then the arrogance of assumption is a mighty puppetmaster.

The opposition is not based on fear nor ignorance, Anonymous. It is based on outrage born from knowledge of what that building would represent which is victory, and the beliefs of it's supporters who condone and praise terrorism, especially the September 11th attacks. It's outrage from grief experienced by most people worldwide on September 11th, but most accutely by those like Richard whose family were directly effected by the events.

The Biblical points are invalid. Christianity had a reformation, whereas Islam did not. There is no Christian sect that stones, beheads, slays based on faith, practices slavery, etc. However, Islam does. Judeo-Christian nations are the most tolerant, whereas Islamic nations stone, behead, whip, cut off limbs, etc. on a regular basis. Try selling that "coexist" bumper sticker in Saudi Arabia, and find out how "tolerant" they are. Churches are not allowed to be built in SA. The mere wearing of a cross can garner public lashings. Research what happened in Indonesia after the tsunami when Israel and the US offered assistance, then tell me about tolerance. This is not the 1% but majority of Islam.

By-the-way, your mention of the KKK is interesting. Did you know that the KKK was formed by the Democrats as the action arm of their party?

This debate is not about religious freedom, although Progressives are trying to make it that. There is a mosque six blocks away. There are mosques all over NY, yet the objection is to this proposed one.

If there are those businesses at Ground Zero, then I'd say that was tacky, however, those proprietors didn't have a hand in murdering 3000 people, and harming how many more.
