An Experiment in Adjusting an Alcohol-based Reality Filter. The more beer you drink, the more the world seems to make sense. I'm not sure if this is the beer's fault, or the world's. Experiments proceed. For pigeonholing purposes, I consider myself a South Park Conservative: I believe in Loose Women and Tight Borders but I'm getting anime porn and legally mandated lounges for day laborers...further adjustment to the model may be needed. e-mail me at slayerdaddy-AT-yahoo.com

Good luck to Smitty! God speed! Naval staff duty in Afghanistan...never thought of it. Well, kick some Tali butt for us!

Naval duty in Afghanistan? Doesn't surprise me a bit. In 2001 the Marines flew from amphibious ships in the Arabian Gulf to capture at base in Southern Afghanistan by means of what the Marines call Vertical Envelopment. In other words, they made an amphibious assault on a country without a seacoast. There's nothing the USA can't do if Americans set their minds to it. Furthermore there must be SEALs there, and, I don't doubt, EOD people from the Navy. Plus every purple suit staff needs some squids.
Good luck to Smitty, and may he return safely after his service there.
I haven't sent a care package to a Sailor in a few years, wonder if I can get an address...
PrairieCat -- Operation Gratitude works with the Navy.
Have donated a pittance to them before, richard, will see what I can come up with to help now...think my last care pkg went to hubby and his buds in Diego Garcia...2002, I believe. Banana bread and cookies were always popular - in the P-3 Navy we didn't worry so much about them getting stale. In the 70's I sent cookies to my brother - he was on a carrier, and it was a whole different ball game.
Sailors in the desert. Hmmmmm.
I do know one who at one time was in the A-6 Airframes shop in a squadron we both served in together. Back in 89-90. She went LDO and did a tour over there.
In those days twenty or so years ago, she was a Second Class Petty Officer. Now a LCDR.
Sand Squids...Check Any Soldier.com for some direct addresses. Any service.
