GOP Address on Health Care...

Just in case you didn't see it in the NYT or on MSNBC...

“I’m House Republican Leader John Boehner. At the beginning of this year, I told President Obama and Speaker Nancy Pelosi that Republicans would be ready to work with them whenever possible to address the nation’s biggest challenges. I also said that where there are differences, it was our obligation as a party to explain to the American people how we would do things better. And on the ‘stimulus,’ the budget, the energy bill, and health care, we have done exactly that.

“As a matter of fact, only Republicans have offered solutions to lower health care costs and make it easier to obtain quality, affordable coverage without imposing a massive burden on the American people.

“We first released our health care plan in June, and over the last six months, we have introduced at least eight bills that, taken together, would implement this blueprint. You can go right now to healthcare.gop.gov and get all the details, but for now, I just want to share with you four ideas Republicans have proposed:

· Number one: let families and businesses buy health insurance across state lines;

· Number two: allow individuals, small businesses, and trade associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices, the same way large corporations and labor unions do today;

· Number three: give states the tools to create their own innovative reforms that lower health care costs; and

· Number four: end junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they are afraid of being sued.

“These are four smart, fiscally-responsible reforms that we can implement today to lower costs and expand access at a price our nation can afford. Again, you can learn more about these and all the health care initiatives Republicans have supported by visiting healthcare.gop.gov.

“The best way to get a sense of what Speaker Pelosi’s takeover of health care looks like is to actually look at it. Just shy of 2,000 pages, it runs more than 620 pages longer than the government-run plan Hillary Clinton proposed in 1993.

“This 1,990 pages of bureaucracy will centralize health care decision making in Washington, DC. It’ll require thousands of new federal employees. It’ll put unelected boards, bureaus, and commissions in charge of who gets access to what drug and what potentially life-saving treatment.

“And it won’t come cheap. Speaker Pelosi’s health care bill will raise the cost of Americans’ health insurance premiums; it will kill jobs with tax hikes and new mandates; and it will cut seniors’ Medicare benefits.

“We now have a choice: we can come together to implement smart, fiscally responsible reforms to improve Americans’ health care or we can recklessly pursue this government takeover that creates far more problems than it solves.

“It’s clear where the American people stand on this issue. They‘re frustrated and fed up. The ‘stimulus’ bill isn’t working. Unemployment is rising. The debt to be paid by our kids and grandkids is exploding. And now, Speaker Pelosi’s 1,990-page government takeover of health care.

“Enough is enough. Breaking the bank and taking away the freedoms Americans cherish is not the answer to the challenges we face.

“This coming week, Republicans will continue to stand on principle, defend freedom, and fight for our better solutions to make health care more affordable and accessible for American families.

“Thanks for listening.”

More common-sense healthcare solutions here. Of course, it would help if we could trust the RNC to give us candidates who are liable to actually implement them, Michael Steele...

Face it, when you've lost the Japanese cartoon pornographers, you've lost America...

Not even remotely safe for work...

This is either gonna get a huge laugh or I'm deeply screwed...

UPDATE: Every once in awhile this species does something to keep me interested. I haven't received one complaint from any conservative about using porn for political agitprop, but I DID receive the following from a tentacle anime fan:

BWAHAAAAHHHAAAHAAA! ! heheeee... guess your not screwed. but next time put a political content warning to cover your bases.

So conservatives don't care about my porn but the pornographers are worried about my politics...

Senate Panel Rejects Health Care Option!

Down in flames...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A Senate panel on Tuesday rejected a government-run "public" insurance option as part of a broad healthcare overhaul, setting up a fight over one of the bill's most contentious issues.

Democratic Chairman Max Baucus opposed both amendments, and said Democrats could not muster the 60 Senate votes needed to clear Republican procedural hurdles and pass a healthcare reform bill if it includes the public option.
"I can count," Baucus said. "No one has been able to show me how they can count up to 60 votes with a public option in the bill."

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has vowed the public option will be included in a final bill.
"The more the American people hear about the public option, the more they like it," said Democratic Senator Charles Schumer, who sponsored one of the amendments.
The Senate Finance plan by Baucus is the only healthcare reform bill pending in Congress that does not have a public insurance plan, which Obama and other backers say would boost competition for insurers.

Republican critics say the public option would devastate the private insurance industry and ultimately lead to a government takeover of the sector.
Democratic Senator John Rockefeller, who offered the other amendment to insert a public option, said the approach would give the public more choices and force the insurance industry to compete.
"Who comes first, the insurance companies or the American people?" he asked.

Senator Charles Grassley, the senior Republican on the panel, said the public option would represent a first step toward the eventual goal of Democrats -- a complete government-run health insurance system.

"A government-run plan will ultimately drive private insurers out of business," Grassley said. "If you support government bureaucrats, not doctors, making decisions, you should support this amendment."

Five Democrats joined panel Republicans to oppose Rockefeller's amendment, 15-8. The second amendment, by Schumer, failed 13-10 with three Democrats opposed.

The $900 billion Baucus bill, one of five pending in Congress, is designed to control costs, regulate insurers and expand coverage to more of the 46 million uninsured people living in the United States.

The plan under consideration by the Senate Finance panel would create state-based exchanges where individuals and small businesses could shop for insurance, but would not offer a government-run plan as an option.

As an alternative, the committee's bill would create nonprofit insurance cooperatives to create competition. Rockefeller and other public option backers say cooperatives are unproven and would not offer enough competition.

Rockefeller's amendment would have tied reimbursement rates for healthcare providers to the lower rates under Medicare, the health insurance plan for the elderly, for two years.

If that happens, Conrad, who is from North Dakota, said, "every major hospital in my state goes broke."

Rockefeller and Schumer said they had expected the issue to lose in the more conservative Senate panel but wanted to kick off debate. Republicans were skeptical.

"If it's so popular, why are there so many Democrats who have a problem with it?" Republican Senator John Ensign asked of the public option.

And this is not a finger, Mr. President...

"I absolutely reject that notion" that it's a tax increase." -- Barack Obama

If I get in my car to drive to the liquor store, and I stop to top up the tank, the government charges me a percentage for the privilege of buying my gasoline. This is a tax, by law.

If I walk into the liquor store, and grab a pack of Luckies, the government charges me a percentage for the privilege of sucking down tar and nicotine. This is a tax, by law.

If I grab a jug of sangria, the government charges me a percentage for the privilege of guzzling cheap wine cut with artificial fruit juice. This is a tax, by law.

If I want to buy insurance against the cancer and cirrhosis I'm setting myself up for, the government charges me a percentage for the privilege of buying my health care anywhere I choose. This is a tax, by law. Specifically, page 29 of the Baucus Bill.

Reading is fundamental, sir.

Fuck You Very Much, Mistah Commander in Chief. Sir. (11)

"...the House bill as it stands today still would not, repeat, would not exempt veterans who receive VA healthcare from the punitive 2.5 percent tax that the bill would impose for failure to have “acceptable coverage.

...The current House bill would also create a disincentive to hiring members of the National Guard and Reserve by levying an eight percent payroll tax penalty against employers that do not provide continuous health coverage to its employees. Continuous coverage for National Guard and Reserve members is not always necessary because they frequently transition to and from active duty where they have access to TRICARE."-- Steve Buyer, House Veterans Affairs Committee

We have troops in combat overseas and Barack Obama and the Democratic Party are promising to monitor them as potential terrorists, to tax their health care, and to cut their benefits to their dependents. Do they really think the troops don't notice this?

How do people this dumb breathe without assistance? How do people that dumb manage to vote for them?

Government Health Care for All!

Yeah, line up for your public option, folks...
A Snarling Fascist Mob on the Ragged Edge of Violence! Torn from Today's headlines! Saturday, August 22nd.

VA Hides Death Bible!

The VA suicide booklet published with the guidance of the Hemlock Society to "assist" lonely and isolated veterans in making "end of life choices" has been withdrawn from part of the VA's website after its existence was publicized.

However, the pamphlet can still be found elsewhere on the VA site and is still being recommended for use by the VA.

The core of Barack Obama's Health Plan...

As summed up by Tim Maquire over at Riehl World View:

"Death Panels" is about who controls the terms of debate. Whatever final bill we see will absolutely contain a provision for review panels (page 429, HC3200 -TBL) to make treatment/coverage decisions based not just on effectiveness, but on cost/benefit grounds. One may argue that "Death Panels" is an exaggeration, but one may not argue that the panels referred to will not convene."

Exactly. To Barack and the Democratic party, you are just another clunker. Not a person, not a life... an integer in his spreadsheet. Autarchs-wannabe like Obama never think about people, but The People, a faceless construction to whom each and everyone of us is subservient and subject to sacrifice.

That alone should be all the reason you need to oppose this bill to the bitter end.

Friday Night Protest Signs

Funny thing, the lefties across the street, a steadily dwindling group, have absolutely NOTHING to say about the ObamaKill health plan. In fact, their signs haven't changed since before the election. It's as though they're not getting any supervision anymore or something...

Fuck You Very Much, Mistah Commander in Chief. Sir. (10)

Remember those "Death Panels" the Democratic Party and Barry said were a myth?

They've already started.

From the Wall Street Journal:

If President Obama wants to better understand why America's discomfort with end-of-life discussions threatens to derail his health-care reform, he might begin with his own Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He will quickly discover how government bureaucrats are greasing the slippery slope that can start with cost containment but quickly become a systematic denial of care.

Last year, bureaucrats at the VA's National Center for Ethics in Health Care advocated a 52-page end-of-life planning document, "Your Life, Your Choices." It was first published in 1997 and later promoted as the VA's preferred living will throughout its vast network of hospitals and nursing homes. After the Bush White House took a look at how this document was treating complex health and moral issues, the VA suspended its use. Unfortunately, under President Obama, the VA has now resuscitated "Your Life, Your Choices."

Who is the primary author of this workbook? Dr. Robert Pearlman, chief of ethics evaluation for the center, a man who in 1996 advocated for physician-assisted suicide in Vacco v. Quill before the U.S. Supreme Court and is known for his support of health-care rationing.

"Your Life, Your Choices" presents end-of-life choices in a way aimed at steering users toward predetermined conclusions, much like a political "push poll." For example, a worksheet on page 21 lists various scenarios and asks users to then decide whether their own life would be "not worth living."

The circumstances listed include ones common among the elderly and disabled: living in a nursing home, being in a wheelchair and not being able to "shake the blues." There is a section which provocatively asks, "Have you ever heard anyone say, 'If I'm a vegetable, pull the plug'?" There also are guilt-inducing scenarios such as "I can no longer contribute to my family's well being," "I am a severe financial burden on my family" and that the vet's situation "causes severe emotional burden for my family."

When the government can steer vulnerable individuals to conclude for themselves that life is not worth living, who needs a death panel?

One can only imagine a soldier surviving the war in Iraq and returning without all of his limbs only to encounter a veteran's health-care system that seems intent on his surrender.

I was not surprised to learn that the VA panel of experts that sought to update "Your Life, Your Choices" between 2007-2008 did not include any representatives of faith groups or disability rights advocates. And as you might guess, only one organization was listed in the new version as a resource on advance directives: the Hemlock Society (now euphemistically known as "Compassion and Choices").

This hurry-up-and-die message is clear and unconscionable. Worse, a July 2009 VA directive instructs its primary care physicians to raise advance care planning with all VA patients and to refer them to "Your Life, Your Choices." Not just those of advanced age and debilitated condition—all patients. America's 24 million veterans deserve better.

Many years ago I created an advance care planning document called "Five Wishes" that is today the most widely used living will in America, with 13 million copies in national circulation. Unlike the VA's document, this one does not contain the standard bias to withdraw or withhold medical care. It meets the legal requirements of at least 43 states, and it runs exactly 12 pages.

After a decade of observing end-of-life discussions, I can attest to the great fear that many patients have, particularly those with few family members and financial resources. I lived and worked in an AIDS home in the mid-1980s and saw first-hand how the dying wanted more than health care—they wanted someone to care.

If President Obama is sincere in stating that he is not trying to cut costs by pressuring the disabled to forgo critical care, one good way to show that commitment is to walk two blocks from the Oval Office and pull the plug on "Your Life, Your Choices." He should make sure in the future that VA decisions are guided by values that treat the lives of our veterans as gifts, not burdens.

People, you have no idea how lonely and isolated a prolonged stay in a government medical facility is. I spent several months visiting Deborah Leigh when she was hospitalized in the VA with a renal infection. Many of the veterans there, especially the olders ones, can go weeks or months without a visit from family or friends, or receive no visits at all. Many of them are facing the prospect of spending the rest of their lives in VA care. For too many of them the only human contact they have is the VA staff... who are now handing them this pamphlet. This is beyond obscene.
